I ran a complete analytics sweep across Deutsche Bahn's on-board entertainment catalogue, looking at what passengers actually watched, for how long, and on which routes. Instead of relying on licensor pitches or industry assumptions, I measured real consumption to separate hero content — the titles that earn their acquisition cost many times over — from niche programming that was quietly dead weight.

The analysis gave the team a clear picture of what to keep, what to drop, and where to invest in new licenses. Content acquisition shifted from gut feel to evidence, and the budget went further on the titles passengers actually wanted to watch.

Outcome

  • Real-consumption signal replaced licensor-pitch decisions
  • Hero content vs. dead weight made explicit
  • Acquisition budget redirected to titles passengers watch
